Never assume “same day”
Some special routes offer same-day delivery, but ordinary airport and hotel services may arrive the next day or later. Ask for the actual delivery date before handing over your suitcase. For an airport departure, allow extra time and confirm the terminal and collection counter.
A large station can have many exits and floors. Use a locker near the exit or line you will return to—not simply the first empty one you see.

Check size, price, hours and deadline
Conditions vary by operator and location. A station locker may be inaccessible after the station or building closes.

Store the bag and follow the screen
Close the door fully. Pay with accepted coins, cash or an IC card. If you use an IC card, the same card may become the locker key.

Keep the receipt and take photos
Photograph the locker number, bank of lockers, nearby exit or landmark and receipt. The receipt may show the location and operator contact.

Return before the limit
Extra charges may apply after the initial period. After the operator's storage limit, the bag may be moved to another office.
IC card reminder
Do not tap a different card or phone when collecting the bag. If you used a mobile IC card, keep the phone charged. Ask the locker operator—not station gate staff—if the door will not open.
Sending luggage
Four common delivery routes
Airport → hotel
Take the bag to an arrivals-lobby delivery counter. Give the full hotel name, address, Japanese telephone number, guest name and check-in date. Ask for the earliest confirmed arrival; many standard services are next day or later.
Hotel → next hotel
Ask the current hotel whether it can send the bag, and ask the next hotel whether it can receive it. The reservation name must match. Private lodging without a staffed reception may not be eligible.
Hotel → airport
Arrange it early. Give the correct airport, terminal, airline, flight number, departure date and passenger name. Delivery to an airport counter is separate from airline check-in—you must collect the bag and check it with the airline yourself.
Convenience store or service counter → destination
Some stores and counters accept domestic parcels, but services, size limits and destination types differ. A convenience store is normally a drop-off point, not a destination for collection. Ask staff before filling out the waybill.

Check the tracking number and the promised delivery date.
Contact the carrier using the number on the delivery slip.
